Hi ladies...long time listener here. As I am listening to this episode while nursing my newborn at 3am (who was the result of a planned pregnancy) I thought I would shed some light on the pregnancy story line, since the details of how that all works is fresh in my mind. I hate this plot line like the rest of you do, but love the “I have a parasite” part because that’s what I called my daughter for the first 20 weeks of gestation...had horrible morning sickness so it just fit. The timing of the doctors visit made sense to me...if you have regular(ish) cycles, you’ll ovulate around 2 weeks before a missed period. A doctors test can tell you at that missed period mark or even before...even some of the more expensive at home tests can tell you days before a missed period, and I’m assuming if this was unplanned Lane wasn’t tracking her cycles. The doctor would have also insisted on testing her before prescribing a medicine for her “parasite” as many are harmful to fetuses. What I found unrealistic is that she was experiencing morning sickness so early on...typically it takes a few more weeks for that to ramp up. This “info” is all based on my personal experiences and that of my friends....maybe people get sick earlier, idk.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think Sookie’s pregnancies were planned... she makes comments about this when she is having her meltdown about how she’ll be a bad mom in season 4. I read some subtext into when she fights with Lorelei about how she’s overwhelmed and might not have gone into business as a new mom (when she doesn’t go accept the sink order and the church bells are ringing) not as that her son wasn’t planned, but that the timing was hard. When you’re trying to get pregnant, you can’t plan it down to the month so sometimes life gets a little waylaid depending on when it happens. I always thought that fight showed how Sookie wanted to be a mom and also run the inn, but the two things just happened too close together so she was having a hard time.
Love the podcast. And,season 7 has always been one of my favorites so I’m glad you guys are enjoying it too.
Hi you all!
ReplyDeletere: what sarah commented above ^ you can find out / take a home pregnancy test around the time your period is due so roughly 2 weeks after you've ovulated. If you're trying to conceive, you would maybe get a test at the time your period is due (i've done it) and if you're not, you will take one later because you've missed your periods or, like in Lane's case, you start having suspicions or go to the doctor.
Morning sickness (which doesn't just happen in the morning but all the live long day) doesn't happen this early though so that's ridiculous but hey that's tv pregnancy for you!
On a side note: i was never a fan of Zack and he and he Lane have 0 chemistry and i wish this whole storyline wasn't real.
Still watching the episode but have to stop to says omg. I think lorelais realization about how her mom may have shaped her every move just might be a milestone that all women hit in their life? I LITERALLY had this exact same moment over Easter. My mom was driving me crazy and I was thinking about how funny it is that we are so different when I suddenly stopped and literally said oh my god I think every choice I have ever made or not made is DIRECTLY because of my mother.
ReplyDeleteOk I’m back. I love this episode. It works for me. She has this thought that maybe she’s been rebelling and rebelling without any real self reflection. She’s just got out of this relationship with Luke - which let’s face it did not make her happy - and there’s Chris who’s known her and accepted her for her entire life. And she didn’t marry him when she was 16 in at least some part because her parents wanted it. She wanted to save Rory from that life ... But now she’s watched Rory go into this life as if she was born to it. This whole plot line just ties every theme the show has had from the beginning together into a narrative and I love it.
DeleteOk come on Cordia - you know this episode made you like Zach more. It’s okay you can admit it.
