The next podcast will post on October 25, 2018 for Season 7, Episode 20 - Lorelai! Lorelai!
In terms of Rory meltdowns this was pretty middle ground, could have handled it better but we've also seen much worse. But I think in this situation, it makes a lot of sense. This was the one thing she wanted and she doesn't know what to do now - there's that black pit in her future again and also possibly some dragons. Of course she completely overreacts to exactly one rejection, (the Chicago Sun times not hiring is not a rection), but at least she admits to being cocky, which I think we can also count as character development.
ReplyDeleteI also love the moment at Luke's when Lorelai tells him that Rory is used to getting what Rory wants and she seems to realize that that might be a problem and maybe also questions the way she raised Rory and didn't prepare her to deal with failure. It's not in the text, but Lauren Graham's performance really sells that.
Speaking of Lauren Graham's performance, that karaoke scene in front of half the town sounds incredibly cheesy and over the top and unrealistic in theory, but boy, is she great in it. The way she starts out singing to Rory, slightly mockingly, and then turns towards serenading Luke is amazing. And his smiling face! I might have teared up which I was not expecting. They've done a really good job of bringing these two together again.
Over in the Lane deserves better corner... I love how quick Zack was to call off the tour when Lane told him she can't go, and then her telling him to go because he can't miss this opportunity. They are a great couple. She seems to be happy with her life, but still, it seems unfair that she is stuck there while Rory has all the possibilities in the world. There's of course nothing wrong with staying in your hometown and marrying and having kids young, I think the problem is that this doesn't feel like it was ever what Lane wanted for herself, at least not at this age. When Rory said the she didn't get a job she really wanted, without any more details, it hit me how far they have drifted apart, which is very realistic and I wish they would explore that a bit more.
As soon as Logan told Rory that in a few days things will have changed and everything will look up again, I suddenly realized which episode I was watching and where this was leading and that sentence of his became a bit gross. He is smart in going to Lorelai because Rory would not agree if Lorelai wasn't also on board. But what happened to factoring each other in? This is not him factoring Rory in.
