  1. As someone who loves Jess and who likes him and Rory together I am of course very excited that he comes back and tells Rory what's what and reminds her of who she used to be and gives her hopefully the last push to get herself back together again. I'm sure you (mostly Celeste) will have a lot to say about that. But the more I think about it, the more reasons I also see to not love it so much? He hasn't seen her in years and he tells her who she is. Maybe she has changed and she's not that girl anymore? Based on this episode alone he seems almost like a plot device. And I wish Rory didn't need someone to yell at her to admit she needs to make a change. But maybe she really couldn't do that by herself and it had to be someone from her past who she would listen to. It's espially effective because Jess was such a mess the last time we saw him and now he has his life together and wrote a book and I love that. It seems I could argue with myself back and forth about this all day. One thing I definitely don't like though, sadly, is the acting while Jess is yelling at Rory. Milo Ventimiglia keeps moving his head like he's a chicken pecking and I can't unsee it and it's super distracting.

I hate Logan for most of this episode. He's such a dick, especially when Jess is there. But I do like that he refuses to take responsibility for Rory's actions, or non-action rather. Yes, he indulged her and didn't fight her, but that's not his job. Rory made these choices and she doesn't get to blame him for going along with him and this lifestyle in general.
Logan is doing the quintessential poor little rich boy in their fight and normally I would hate him for that, too, but for some reason, this time I could see his perspective too. He needs to grow up and recognize his privileges. I also think it's interesting that both Logan and Rory are feeling this way because of Mitchum. Rory only ever saw one door she wanted to go through and that was closed by Mitchum, while for Logan there was only one door he felt he was being pushed through by Mitchum.

The last time I watched these episodes was last year when I was just finished with university and couldn't find a job and felt like my work experience was seriously lacking. So when Rory said she's throwing her life away with the DAR, I don't agree. Organizing all those parties? Those are valuable skills, put that shit on your cv!

I found Michael's comment on the last episode very interesting that he thought at first Emily was trying to push Rory away on purpose. It might not have been her plan, but in the end, her being overbearing definitely is a big reason for Rory to realize that this isn't it. She's rather rude, but I love Rory's line that Emily is becoming more and more like her mother's mother. The grandparents always had such a different relationship with Rory, stemming from the fact that she didn't grow up with them in her life. And at times they specifically expressed that they wanted to do things different with Rory because they didn't want their relationship to be like the one with Lorelai. It seems in the end they can't help themselves.

About Lorelai's side of the episode, I just have to say that I love how quietly supportive Luke is again when Lorelai is freaking out about Paul Anka. He doesn't judge her but let's her do what she's gotta do to feel like she's doing everything she can and assures her that she's doing the right thing. And even when it's very obvious that Lorelai isn't talking only about Paul Anka anymore, he doesn't say anything about it, only that everything is going to be okay. And I just have to say again that Lauren Graham is one of the best criers on tv. She's so good.
