I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with the Birkin Bag storyline. The bag feels like the perfect representation of Logan and Rory's relationship: He buys her this super duper expensive and exclusive gift and she wants to put computer cords in it because she has no idea what it is. That certainly fits my view of the relationship, but it doesn't really feel like that's the story the show is trying to tell. All we heard in the last few episodes and now here is how great their relationship is and how good they are together. Rory even tells him she loves him. So I don't know what they wanted to do with the Birkin Bag story here. Is it meant to tell us anything more or is it just supposed to be funny?
ReplyDeleteOk, there's one moment I always laugh at: When Emily explains it to Richard and mentions how she showed it to him around her birthday. Her delivery is great. But yeah, everyone is treating the Birkin bag like a great gift and not something completely unreasonable.
Another sidenote about the relationship and a comment on your last podcast: I liked what you said about the scene where Logan comes to Rory in a bad mood and invites people over because that makes him feel better. Something about them being comfortable enough to do that or something in that direction. I thought that was a very interesting take on it because I saw something completely different. Especially with Rory later telling Lane that Logan is constantly surprising her and she never knows what to expect with him. I thought, yeah, because he's inviting people over to your house without asking or telling you when that's not something she was at all expecting from the mood he was in before.
I guess for me there is - as there often is on this show, I realized - a disconnect between what the characters are saying about the relationship and how they're portraying it and what I personally see in what's happening on the screen.
