I think one of Chris' biggest problems is that he's always trying too hard. We've seen it over and over again this season, like at the parents' weekend at Yale, in Paris and now again here at the knitathon. He goes too far and he just doesn't get it. The scene where Lorelai explains to Chris how the tour through Stars Hollow went fine but nothing more, while he thought everything was great, reminded me so much of last episode, when she told him how Rory really felt.
ReplyDeleteEven though we all know this marriage is a terrible idea, and Lorelai knowing it too, even though she's trying to convince herself and other people otherwise - and often utterly failing at that - I do appreciate that there are moments that show how this marriage could work. I still think Chris and Lorelai have good chemistry and great banter and I like the last moment when Chris says that Stars Hollow will like him because he loves Lorelai. So much of this relationship is based on their past and while it clearly won't work out, there are things here that do work. I do realize that I'm judging this now out of context of Chris' creepiness at the beginning of the season and the terrible pushiness of the Paris proposal.
I love how everyone is ganging up on Lorelai in the first scene at the dinner and can't believe how Lorelai told her parents about the wedding. It's especially fun seeing Emily and Richard not be angry or mad about it or taking it personally but instead making fun of how Lorelai chose to handle this.
We still don't know what Emily bought Lorelai and Max as a wedding present, but it certainly wasn't Wolf Girl. That's a very confusing gift considering she wanted to buy her and Luke a house.
I still don't want to talk about Marty. Another guy who cannot get over Rory. I appreciate laundry room guy from season 4 so much more in hindsight, simply because he was apparently the only guy who ever met Rory and did not fall madly and forever in love with her.
